Job Overview 

Our innovative and growing company is looking for an Enterprise Data Architect and Engineer. The Architect has end to end responsibility to designing and implementing Sequel’s cloud-based enterprise data warehouse and integration across the business. The initial focus of this role will be on designing and implementing a best-in-class solution that integrates business processes and systems from across Sequel’s business and partnering with internal technical team and external consultants to implement this design. The ideal candidate for this role will be highly technical, hands on, and excited to build great data products to support a rapidly growing medical device startup. 

Job Responsibilities and Essential Duties 

  • Develop data architecture strategy in partnership with internal stakeholders to meet business objectives.  This includes understanding business goals, defining data structures, metadata, data models, and data integration processes. This involves working with various technologies, including data warehouses, data lakes, data marts, and data APIs. 

  • Define data governance and security policies, including access controls, data masking, encryption, and data classification, to comply with industry standards and regulations. Certify and maintain Title 21 CFR Part 11 compliance. 

  • Partner with consultants to implement the data architecture strategy, review and QC implementation. 

  • Data modeling: Developing logical and physical data models that reflect the organization's data needs. This includes defining data elements, data relationships, data flows, and data transformation rules. 

  • Collaborating with stakeholders: Working closely with various internal stakeholders to ensure that data is being used effectively and efficiently across the organization. 

  • Evaluate and influence selection of data warehouse and business intelligence software solutions. 

  • Design, build, and maintain physical databases, dimensional data models, OLAP cubes, ETL layer design, event driven architectures and data integration strategies. 

  • Design and architect solutions requiring complex system integration. Organize and maintain interfaces to and from other systems including ERP, CRM, QMS, 3rd party data providers and other healthcare systems. 

  • Create and maintain optimal data pipeline architecture, assemble large, complex data sets that meet functional / non-functional business requirements. 

  • Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, etc. 

Minimum Requirements 

  • 8+ years of hands-on experience working on architecting, implementing, and operating data capabilities and cutting-edge data solutions, preferably in a cloud environment. Breadth of experience in technology capabilities that span the full life cycle of data management including data lakes, data operations, data engineering, master/reference data management, data quality and analytics/AI ML is needed.  

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field preferred 

  • As a startup need team players the ability to adapt quickly to changing technology and willing to wear multiple hats across the engineering organization 

  • Decision making – ability to make decisions and desire to dive into and drive issues to resolution. 

  • Time management skills, problem solving and analytical skills, and organizational skills are necessary for success in this position.  

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 

  • Solid knowledge of core Information Architecture capabilities spanning Master and Reference Data Management, Data Quality (DQ), Metadata Management and Data Taxonomy 

  • Hands-on experience developing and delivering data, ETL solutions with cloud data technologies such as Azure and AWS data services (Synapse, Data Factory, Glue, Redshift, Athena, Lake Formation, etc.) 

  • Experience with big data technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, Kafka 

  • Provides domain expertise of open-source and commercial relational DBMS (Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL), NoSQL databases, time series databases. 

  • Experience working with healthcare data in the pharmaceutical, biotech, medical device, healthcare and/or insurance industry. 

  • Strong understanding of data modeling, data architecture, solution engineering, data government and data systems. 

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional internal stakeholders. 

  • In-depth expertise with data security, storage solutions, database virtualization and replication as well as other complex database/data technical tools and solutions. 

  • Strong programming skills in languages such as SQL, Python, Java, Scala, C++, R, PyTorch. 

  • Experience managing, measuring, and improving data quality in a data warehouse. 

  • Communication skills including the ability to identify and communicate data-driven insights. 

  • Solid understanding of systems engineering in relation to creating a high-performance BI architecture which will efficiently use CPU, memory, storage, caching, IO. 

  • Identify and profile data quality and data curation methods for public data sources and healthcare 3rd party data providers. 

  • Experience in technologies such as: ESB, SOA architecture, API integrations. 

  • Health Care or Medical Device Industry experience is a plus. 

Environmental/Safety/Physical Work Conditions 

  • Ensures environmental consciousness and safe practices are exhibited in decisions 

  • Use of computer and telephone equipment and other related office accessories/devices to complete assignments 

  • May work extended hours during peak business cycles 

  • Physical requirements such as lifting specific weights 

  • Some travelling is expected
